Hi, I’m Paulo, the luthier behind the Futone Guitars brand. Futone guitars is all about applying my understanding of product design to an instrument, in this case the guitar and bass. Each instrument is the result of a careful process that starts in the drawing board with sketches that are almost unreadable to anyone else. This design process can take days, weeks or months and only when It produces the desired outcome do I start to build an instrument by hand.
Each time I start a concept I ask myself: what is the problem this instrument wants to solve, and this means each time there is a different problem, some very real, some very made-up by myself. This is why in my models you can see guitars that look straight from the 60’s and others that look like they come straight from an art gallery from New York.
I do not strive to create an aesthetic that you can identify me for instantly, like Apple, rather I strive to create pieces that make you stop and wonder: who made this? And if to that question you «add I want to play it!» we have all it takes to start a good friendship.
